Mayan Calendar Cycle Ends, The World Is Still Here
With December 21st coming and going, doomsday prophecies of a great cataclysm or an alien invasion or even a huge meteorite colliding with the earth fell short.
As a matter of fact, the most impressive part of the whole event was the social media jokes and comic interpretations of the presumed end of the world.
A 5.125 year-cycle of the Mayan Calendar ended today as dawn arrived at the Chichen Itza pyramid, the biggest pyramid in the Mayan ruins close to Merida.
With crowds of people gathering outside the monument to celebrate the occasion, the mood was a more optimistic and happy one than most people would expect for and ending of the world gathering.
With Buddhists pagan nature worshipers, druids and followers of the Mayan Aztec Religion, the crowd was very diverse but the feeling was mostly the same, one of happiness and hope for what they considered the beginning of a new and a better age as the Mayan Calendar was ending .
Ollin Yolotzin a spiritual leader said “The world was never going to end; this was an invention of the mass media”. He added, regarding the new era and the ending of the Mayan Calendar, “It is going to be a good era… We are going to be better.”
Ivan Gutierrez, an artist living in a village close to the sacred site, also said when asked about the ending of the Mayan Calendar “We are in a frequency of love, we are in a new vibration.”
