Medical Marijuana May Be Legalized In Florida
The move to legalize marijuana, even for medical use is still strong in the U.S. especially following the success it had in states like Colorado and Washington.
The question of how this could be achieved is still on the table especially as federal law prohibits such an initiative.
The Cathy Jordan Medical Cannabis Act seems to be the solution and was the bill introduced by Senator Jeff Clemens that states that people who are diagnosed with a debilitating condition can use medical marijuana for relief. Conditions range from epilepsy to back pain and depression.
The DEA isn't for the legalization of the drug saying that enough research hasn't been done to determine correctly the repercussion of smoking marijuana, and thus it can’t be used as medicine.
While growing marijuana is illegal, the DEA says it generally goes against traffickers not the individual user.
Analysts compare the current situation to that of the prohibition, saying that consumption isn't going to stop, and that no matter how tough the laws, it is going to increase and that putting the drug in the hands of sometimes dangerous traffickers will bring a dark side to it that can easily be preventable.
The numerous scientific studies that show the drugs fantastic benefits in dealing with some diseases should be another favorable argument for the legalization of medical marijuana.
