Melky Cabrera’s Suspension Shocks Giants GM Sabean

Brian Sabean, general manager of San Francisco Giants, defended two suspended veteran players of his club. He insisted that the two players know that there is no good in using drugs that can enhance their performance.

After a positive testosterone test, Melky Cabrera was given a 50-game suspension. Cabrera was an All-Star game MVP and this was shocking news to everyone, especially to Sabean.

''I was so taken aback it was deflating. I was actually in the meeting with Bruce when he talked to the players and I kind of got emotional because I didn't see something like this coming. We've all been around this game a long time. You get used to making changes and adjustments. Things happen out of left field, a lot like life, and this was one of those things you're punched in the stomach with. But you've got no choice but to figure out how to move on,'' said Sabean.

As a step and solution, the team will be continuing to educate and teach their players about the major league drug program.

The role of Cabrera will be taken temporarily by Gregor Blanco. He will join other relievers as two of the big players were suspended for this season.
