Mexico’s Huge Comeback Beats US in Gold Cup

A disappointing loss saw the United States melt its early 2 - 0 lead within the first 23 minutes of regulation.  Losing 2 - 4 to 6 time Gold Cup champions Mexico.

The first goal by Michael Bradley off a Freddy Adu pass came in at the 8th minute.  The next and last US goal came at the 23rd minute via a Landon Donovan shot off a Clint Dempsey pass.  But that was all the Americans made through the entire game.

Within six minutes of the last US goal, Pablo Barrera began the Mexican scoring from a Javier Hernandez assist.  The US could have controlled the game entering the second half, though if not for Andres Guardado’s 36th minute goal that tied the game.  From this point on the US played rattled.

Taking from the coach’s instruction, the Mexican team ‘(fought) through every single play’, Hernandez said.  Another goal from Barrera gave Mexico the lead at the 50th minute onwards.  The goal that shut the door of hope for the Americans was Dos Santo’s goal near the end of regulation, that sealed their 4 -2 win.

U.S. coach Bob Bradley offered no excuses and instead hoped that, the defeat would be a ‘learning experience’.
