Miami Heat Take Game Two Of NBA Finals
Mario Chalmers took the hero role for the Miami Heat as they beat the San Antonio Spurs in the second game of the NBA Finals. The 19-point performance of Chalmers negated the effects of the defense of San Antonio on Lebron James.
The series is now even with one game apiece for Miami and San Antonio as the series shifts to San Antonio on June 12. The third quarter proved to be the turning point for Miami as it turned a tight game into a blowout for the win.
The win did not only even the series for the Miami heat, it also resulted to a demoralizing effect on San Antonio, which won by four points in the first game. Manu Ginobili said that losing a game 19 points can be frustrating, especially after winning the first game. It’s a situation that you would not want to have in the NBA Finals since it will give the other team confidence in the series, he added.
Tim Duncan was limited to nine points on a 3-for-13 performance, as he was not able to assert himself inside the lane and his outside shots were less than remarkable. His poor performance was mainly due to the defense of Udonis Haslem of the Miami Heat.
Gregg Poppovich, the coach of the Spurs, indicated that defense play a key role in the game. The turnovers and poor shooting proved to be a bad combination for San Antonio, which had 17 turnovers in Game 2.
Duncan said that although he was getting the shots that he wanted, he was not making them. He plans to go to the gym and try to get a better rhythm in the next game. Game 3 will be a major turning point for the series since the winner of Game 3 coming of a 1-1 deadlock emerged the NBA champion 11 out of 12 times.
Coach Erik Spoelstra of Miami said they tried to make the Big Three of San Antonio to work for their shots, similar to what San Antonio was doing on the players of the Heat. They are good in moving the ball and precisely executing their plays, which means Miami has to get going early in the game. However, that was enough for the Miami Heat to even the series in the NBA Finals.
