Michael Crabtree Undergoes Surgery For Torn Achilles
Michael Crabtree, wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers has undergone surgery this Wednesday to fix his torn Achilles tendon.
The wide receiver suffered his injury Tuesday during team practice. Coach Jim Harbaugh said that the surgery went well but that the season is over for Crabtree.
Crabtree wrote to his fans via Twitter saying “"I go hard for my friends, family and fans, just felt like I let everybody down".
While the season is technically over for the wide receiver, exceptions to the rule have been seen with Terrell Suggs of the Ravens and Da’Quan Bowers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers being able to return after suffering the same injury early in the season.
The decision to undergo surgery as soon as possible may be the deciding factor in Crabtree’s return as last year Kendall Hunter lost an entire season due to the fact that he waited a small period of time before undergoing surgery.
Crabtree who is 25 years old was the 10th pick the 49ers made in the 2009 draft, coming from Texas Tech. He had a fantastic season in 2012 going for career high numbers like 85 receptions for 1,105 yards and 9 touchdowns.
While odds are against him, Michael Crabtree has managed to make sooner than expected comebacks in the last two years from other injuries, so hopefully for the 49ers, history might just repeat itself.
