Miller Talks About Mad Max: Fury Road

George Miller may be considered as an icon when it comes to vehicular mayhem. The Australian director created a crazier version of the anti-utopian wasteland he designed in the 70s with the upcoming release of Mad Max: Fury Road.

The original movie came out in 1979 with Mel Gibson playing the role of Max Rockatansky. Gibson came back for the two sequels of the movie in 1981 and 1985. After the trilogy, the moviemaker worked on other projects, including Babe in 1995 and Happy Feet in 2006.

However, during a flight from Los Angeles to Sydney around twelve years ago, Miller came up with an idea for another Mad Max movie. The role of Max is now played by Tom Hardy, who plays an antihero helping a group of women escape from a powerful warlord across the desert.

Miller said the Max of Mel is different from the Max of the new movie. Since he has spent a good amount of time with Tom, he considers Tom as the new Max for the new movie. While the cost of the original movie was at around $400,000, it grossed over $100 million around the world. It also became the Guinness world record holder for the most profitable movie before The Blair Witch Project broke the record in 1999.

However, Miller said the original movie did not seem to be fun. In addition to its limited budget, it was the first time he was on a movie set. He added that he was somewhat confused while working on the movie.

He said he initially thought he could simply go and work on it without any problems if everything in the movie was planned out and worked out in his head. He did not anticipate numerous issues that may emerge while working on the project, including sudden changes in the weather.

The latest movie appears bigger compared to the original, and Miller seems to get caught up with the details once again. He said it felt like he was going out of his mind or the movie was not working out as planned.

After everything in the Mad Max: Fury Road was done, Miller said he will simply watch it while sitting on a bean bag and let his brain reboot to allow him to go on with his life.
