Motley Crue's Vince Neil takes plea bargain

Vince Neil, singer of rock band Motley Crue, will take a plea bargain agreement that will require him to spend two weeks in jail then an additional two weeks of house arrest. The deal was for his drunk driving arrest in Las Vegas last summer . He was driving his black Lamborghini sports car when he was stopped by Las Vegas police and subsequently charged.

Under the deal, the rock singer will plead guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence before a judge in Las Vegas court on January 26. The information was relayed by Tess Driver who is an aide to David Roger, the Clark County District Attorney. Driver said Neil will begin his sentence on February 15, shortly after the singer turns 50.

"I have recognized that you can't drink and drive at all," said Neil in a statement issued by his publicist Jill Siegel.

The singer's attorney David Chesnoff said that his client avoided six months of jail time by accepting the plea agreement. "Mr. Neil recognized that he needed to take responsibility for his actions," Chesnoff said.

Barely a week before his arrest, Neil said in an interview with the AP that he had been sober for many years. "There's just a point in your life where you kind of stop, that's what happened with me," he said, claiming he had stopped drinking and had not used drugs in two decades.

The Motley Crue singer had faced legal troubles before. In 1984, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and drunken driving charges for which he spent 20 days in jail and paid $2.5 million to victims of the car crash.
