Mount Everest Expedition Ends In A Fistfight
An argument with Sherpas resulted to the end of an expedition of three climbers on Mount Everest.
The climbers revealed that they were near Camp Three before they were accused of kicking ice on Sherpas below them. This happened while the guides were setting up ropes for the ascent. An argument followed before the climbers were confronted by a group of Sherpas after they went back to Camp Two.
Two of the climbers, Ueli Steck of Switzerland and Simone Moro of Italy, were able to climb Mount Everest before. The third man in the expedition was a British photographer, Jonathan Griffith. Moro revealed through his website that they were attacked by the Sherpas since a Sherpa was hit by ice that was knocked off by the climbers. He added that ice hitting a person in the face is a natural occurrence. They believed that the pride of the lead Sherpa was hurt, who may have been cold and tired, after the climbers were able to move without ropes ahead of the Sherpas.
An American witness said that the team was told not to move ahead of the Sherpas while they were working on the ropes on Mount Everest. However, the climbers went ahead. The Sherpas became angry after they were hit by falling ice.
The witness also said that the supposed attack on Camp Two nearly got the climbers killed. The incident was investigated by Nepali police.
However, the incident was cleared up following a meeting between the two sides, which resulted to apologies being given by both sides.
The meeting resulted to an amicable settlement on the incident that happened on Mount Everest.
