The MTV Video Music Awards show is going to ditch Los Angeles and will be held on the East Coast, for the first time in some years.
The over the top show is coming back to New York City for the first times since 2009. This will be the 30th edition of the festival, a number that shocked a lot of people making them realize how time has made the once rebellious show into something somewhat more established, even if it still maintains it’s over the top style.
The Barclays Center in Brooklyn will be the location of the event, which will be held on the 25th of August.
Stephen Friedman MTV President said that Brooklyn is experiencing a true cultural renaissance that started with the coming of the Brooklyn Nets, and that has transformed the borough from a place where upcoming artists were concerting to the scene for some of today’s biggest stars.
The event location was celebrated with a series of photos with the MTV Moonman showing his journey from LA to New York, posing in front of LAX , Times Square, a NY subway station and finally in front of the Barclays Center.
The first edition of the MTV Video Music Awards was held in New York, at the Radio City Music Hall back in 1983.
