Murray defeats Nadal to Become 2011 Japan Tennis Open Champion

Andy Murray, world no. 4, showed his winning form by beating Rafael Nadal, defending champion and top seed, to win the Japan Open Sunday. Murray was down as Nadal won the first set but the Scottish tennis player proved he is the man to beat in the tournament beating Nadal in 2 straight sets.

Although Murray won the Thailand Open last week and the Cincinnati Masters a month ago, many thought Murray would succumb once more to his 6th consecutive loss against Nadal, the world no. 2, after the Spaniard tennis star powered his way in the first set. Murray showed his devastating style limiting the score of Nadal in the next 2 sets finishing the final game with the score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.

It was Murray 21st triumph out of his last 22 matches. He was defeated by Nadal in the U.S. Open semifinals. Murray hopes to get the world no. 3 ranking from Roger Federer as he looks forward to the Shanghai Masters next week.

His ultimate goal is to improve his current no. 4 world rank to a notch higher at no. 3. He still believes he is on perfect shape going to the Shanghai Masters tournament. Nadal who will also compete in Shanghai is again seeded in the match pairings to meet Murray in the finals.
