Murray Overtakes Federer in World Rankings
Andy Murray has edged out Roger Federer to take the number 3 spot in the ATP World Rankings after his recent win at the Shanghai Masters. It was Murray’s 3rd straight win at the ATP Tour title. He defeated David Ferrer of Spain with a stunning 7-5, 6-4 final game Sunday.
Aside from this title, Murray has also won major tennis tournaments in Thailand and Japan. Before winning his 8th Masters title, Murray had to dispose his opponent Ferrer, 5th ranked in the ATP World Ranking, in a game that ended in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Murray boasts his 15 consecutive match win. He was last defeated in the semi-finals of the U.S. Open by Rafael Nadal. Murray’s recent victories in the ATP Tour were enough for him to overtake Roger Federer and take the number 3 spot.
I’m very happy with my recent solid performances and this is one of the best runs in my whole life thus far, Murray said. I’m contented with my performance although I was very nervous throughout my final game here at the Shanghai Masters. I really wanted so bad to defend my title and indeed it was given to me, he added.
It was very impossible to outplay Murray with his current topnotch form, admitted by Ferrer. The new ATP Rankings will be released Monday with Novak Djokivic and Rafael Nadal at the top 2 of the ranking table.
