New Drivers Released By Nvidia And AMD For Windows 10

Following the release of Windows 10 to computers using Windows 7 and Windows 8 by Microsoft, AMD and Nvidia also updated their drivers to deal with any issues that may emerged with the latest version of the OS of the software giant.

The latest update for the Catalyst Driver package of AMD comes a few weeks after the company released its first update in more than six months. The new update contained drivers for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. The Catalyst Display driver version 15.20.1062.1002 offers full support for DirectX 12 and WDDM 2.0 for all Graphics Core Next products of AMD.

The release notes revealed that the new driver will deal with all known issues for The Witcher 3, Battlefield 4, and Cyberlink PowerDVD 3D playback along with other general bugs. However, a number of new issues emerged after the fix as released, including Firefox crashing when at least two tabs are open. The temporary workaround offered by AMD is to open separate windows. Another issue with the configurations of AMD and Intel also emerged resulting to the installation of a blue screen. The company advised users to install the driver through the Windows update if the blue screen will appear.

A new WHQL driver was also released by Nvidia for Windows 10. GeForce driver 353.62 designed for Windows 10 supports all the 400 series GPUs of Nvidia up to the 900 series. However, some GPUs may not receive full support as the company indicated that Fermi-based GPUs do not offer support for the WDDM 2.0 mode. On the other hand, all Maxwell and Kepler-based cores offer support for DirectX 12 and WDDM 2.0. The release notes have not mentioned any issues or fixes.

A support article released by Nvidia explained that Windows 10 cannot support more than one mode at the same time, and will detect which CPU to support depending on the that will drivers load first. Due to this, a Fermi GPU cannot be used in the same system as a Maxwell or Fermi. Users with a dedicate PhysX card or an old graphcs card will have to wait.

While this was not mentioned on the website of Nvidia, some users who received their free Windows 10 updates confirmed that the driver where the Windows update was installed automatically matches any version available on the website.
