New Features Added To Meerkat

Two new features were announced recently by Meerkat that aims to bridge the gap between viewers and streamers. The new features are designed to allow users to go into streams as well as store recordings in a library.

The company said the new “Cameo” feature provides viewers the capability of taking over a stream and broadcasting themselves up to a minute with the approval of the main broadcaster. The streams will be automatically saved and stored by the company after the broadcast is completed. While the library is private, it is possible to make saved streams available to the public.

The new features will give the company an advantage over the live-streaming application of Twitter, Periscope. The company was launched prior to the SXSW event in Texas last February. The event has become the launching ground for a number of successful companies, including Twitter and Foursquare.

Even as the popularity of the app is gradually growing, Twitter attempted to lessen its influence by limiting the access of Meerkat to the friends list of its users. On the same day Twitter made its move, it announced its acquisition of Periscope.

The company said it was changing the way users are logging in and connecting with friends by using Facebook in an effort to set it apart from its rival. The company said it can give users more chances in joining conversations, moments and events with their friends by linking Meerkat with Facebook.
