New Orleans Pelicans To Take The Place of The New Orleans Hornets
The sting of the New Orleans Hornets may disappear once its nickname is retired at the end of the season as the team will soon be dubbed as the New Orleans Pelicans.
It appeared that the team opted to get a name associated with Louisiana, which is the pelican. It is the state bird and it is seen on the flag of the state, which is also known as the Pelican State. This makes it sensible to call the team the New Orleans Pelicans.
However, the name New Orleans Pelicans may not sound credible enough for a number of observers. The bird is not any run-of-the-mill feathered animal and it is not an ordinary predator since it normally swoops down from the sky and grabs its prey.
Pelicans may not sound as majestic as hawks, falcons, and eagles, but they fly above the water before pouncing on its prey, which normally consist of turtles, tadpoles, crustaceans, and fish. They can also scoop their prey out of the water and keep them in their huge bill.
The bird from where the New Orleans Pelicans will be named after is also considered smart since they hunt together. They also adapt easily to most environments and can be found in all continents with the exception of Antarctica.
The name New Orleans Pelicans may not sound like a professional sports team. Some observers indicated that it sounds more like the name of a college team.
Some suggest that the team should use another name for the team aside from New Orleans Pelicans once it retires its current name.
