New York Mets Pitching Staff Changes Made
Aaron Laffey was designated by the New York Mets even as the team also called up Robert Carson from the Triple-A.
The left-hander is serving as the fifth starter of the Mets following injuries to Shaun Marcum and Johann Santana. Marcum is expected to join the team within the week although Santana is already out for the entire season. Marcum is set to throw around seventy-five pitches during a rehab outing, and if everything works out, he may start for the team’s game against Philadelphia on Saturday.
On the other hand, Terry Collins, the manager of the New York Mets, revealed that Carson was doing well with his throw, and the team is aiming to try him out.
Collins added that Marcum is getting himself prepared and he will likely have a maximum of ninety-five pitches if he starts the game. Marcum is a ground-ball pitcher, who pitches for contact. However, the rehab workout will show how he has recovered from the nerve inflammation that affected his shoulder and neck.
Carson has appeared in seventeen games for the New York Mets last season. He gave up a total of seven runs in 13 1/3 innings, giving him a 4.73 ERA.
Carson revealed that he was disappointed after he was cut from the big-league club following spring training. However, he has been working on his breaking ball, fastball, cutter and changeup at Triple-A. He also revealed that he was happy to be back.
The relievers of the Mets currently have a 5.47 ERA, which is the work in the major league for the season.
Last December, Laffey signed a minor league contract with the team although he did not go past the fifth inning in any of his starts for the year. He gave up eight runs on sixteen hits in his four overall appearances for the New York Mets.
