NFL Draftee Alfonzo Dennard Assaults A Police Officer Five Days Before Draft

Just five days before entering the NFL draft, Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested for assaulting a police officer in Lincoln early Saturday morning.  Reportedly, Dennard was caught in a fight at a bar when the police tried to stop it. Four police officers took Dennard into custody.  He is now expected to spend the weekend in jail.

We can recall that Dennard was kicked out from the 2012 Capital One Bowl for fighting with South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffrey.  He is noted as having a hot tempered attitude and being physical, but those characteristics didn't turn into any off-the-field problems until recently.

Being one of the most physical and hot-tempered cornerbacks in this draft class, sports critics ask, “If that's how he treats teammates, imagine what he does to opponents?”

The athlete is expected to go in the second or third round during this week's draft, but nobody knows what effect this incident can have on his draft position.

''It doesn't help the kid any,'' said Gil Brandt, a former player personnel director for the Dallas Cowboys and an NFL analyst.

No matter what, it's never a good idea to get arrested for hitting a cop days before such an important time in Dennard's football career.
