North Korea Hints At War With South Korea

After South Korea supported the new UN sanctions against North Korea, its northern neighbor issued threats of attacking its rival.

South Korea became the latest target of the verbal onslaught of North Korea as it indicated that sanctions is tantamount to declaring war against them. It also indicated that it will boycott discussions that aim to end its nuclear program. It also said that more nuclear and rocket tests will be conducted following the UN sanctions that resulted from its missile test last December.

The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea indicated that if support of South Korea in the UN sanctions, it will take measures to counter it. The UN Security Council recently condemned the rocket launch of North Korea last December and expanded current UN sanctions against the reclusive nation.

The United States imposed sanctions on two bank officials from North Korean as well as a trading firm in Hong Kong.

South Korea is looking into some sanctions that it can impose together with the US. However, it is currently focusing on eth UN sanctions against the North.

The rhetoric of North Korea increased this week following the imposition of new UN sanctions. It indicated that it will conduct additional nuclear and rocket tests. It also directed its anger on its supposed sworn enemy, the United States.

The comments of North Korea were considered worrying by Leon Panetta, the Secretary of Defense of the United States.

He indicated that the US is concerned with the provocative behavior of North Korea, and it is prepared to handle such provocations. It is believed that North Korea lacks the technology in delivering a nuclear warhead that can reach the US mainland.

Activities in the area that is considered as the testing ground of North Korea for nuclear weapons were being monitored by South Korea and other countries.

The Chinese foreign ministry reiterated its call for restraint in the Korean peninsula. It indicated that more dialogues and discussions are needed to improve relations and actions that will complicate the situation should not be taken

The efforts of China in defusing the situation do not appear to be appreciated by its ally as shown on state media, which suggests the frustration of China. China simply wants peace between South and North Korea.
