North Korea Increases Nuclear Activity

According to official South Korean sources nuclear activity in North Korea’s main nuclear test site has increased as the communist dictatorship is presumed to be preparing for a fourth underground blast.

This Tuesday’s report came in just a couple of days before United States President Barack Obama is due to arrive in South Korea as part of a visit to several other south Asian countries. The South Korean Defense Ministry released a statement saying they spotted increased nuclear related activity in several parts of the nuclear test site in Punggye-ri, North Korea. The South Korean ministry refused to give out any more data on exactly what type of activities were going on in the site specifying that it is classified information.

The Defense Ministry also announced that it has increased its military awareness and since Monday will monitor the North Eastern area of Punggye-ri around the clock. North Korean representatives declared earlier this year that a new session of nuclear testing is not excluded. Regional experts say that the possible test would involve a uranium bomb.

The previous three tests the North Korean regime carried out are believed to have involved plutonium based explosions. The last nuclear test performed by North Korea took place in February 2013 and managed to attract a series of severe international sanctions that aimed to halt its weapons program.
