One Million Documents To Be Released By WikiLeaks: Julian Assange
Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, revealed that the website is set to release over one million documents in the coming year. Although no details were offered, he indicated that the contents will affect all countries around the word.
Assange made the statement from a balcony at the Embassy of Ecuador in London, which has served as his home for over six months. He was granted asylum by the Ecuadorian government last August although he will be arrested by British authorities if he steps out of the premises.
Last June, Julian Assange sought refuge at the Ecuadorian Embassy in an effort to avoid extradition efforts by Sweden, which wants to question him for inappropriate behavior. However, he was concerned that he will be transferred to the US where he may be prosecuted due to WikiLeaks. If charged in the US, he faces the possibility of death penalty.
Julian Assange revealed that after he was granted asylum by the Ecuadorian government, the embassy has become his office, his home and his refuge.
He has indicated that the allegations against him in Sweden were politically motivated and was linked to his website, which makes it possible to publish secret documents.
Although no charges were leveled against Julian Assange in the US, his supporters have indicated that a grand jury was already empanelled to look over possible charges against the founder of WikiLeaks.
