Oscar Pistorius Goes Through Cross-Examination
Oscar Pistorius was grilled by prosecutors as the cross-examination of the Olympian for the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, started recently.
Prosecutor Gerrie Nel did not beat around the bush and went straight into the focal point of the case. Nel asked the athlete several times if he killed Steenkamp. Nel also attempted to make the athlete say that he killed his girlfriend. However, the athlete did not make such an admission during the cross-examination.
The athlete had earlier testified that he had the blood of Steenkamp running down o him after he found her body inside the bathroom. However, he insisted that he thought that the law graduate and model was an intruder hiding inside the bathroom. He also said he felt helpless and did not intend to kill her.
Oscar Pistorius also said that he does not always think that the things he does are always right when Nel asked him about his Christian faith. He said he tries not to lie and is there to tell the truth.
The defense team of the athlete was taken by surprise as Nel asked Pistorius about a video that showed him shooting a watermelon inside a gun range. He also compelled the athlete to say he wanted to take a look at the video. However, lead lawyer for the defense, Barry Roux complained that the prosecutor was introducing evidence that they were not able to review.
However, the prosecutor indicated that the athlete wanted to see the video and it should be shown. The judge agreed to what Nel said.
The athlete is faces a charge of premeditated murder following the fatal shooting of Reeva Steenkamp last year. However, the athlete says it was a case of mistaken identity. Oscar Pistorius also read a number of text messages sent by Steenkamp in court, including one that indicated that she was scared of the Olympian.
