Oscar Pistorius Set To Appear In Court

As the World Championships are being held in Moscow, Oscar Pistorius is set to appear in court on August 19.

The court appearance is in connection to the death of Reeva Steenkamp, his girlfriend, last February. The athlete has been staying in the house of a relative in South Africa while waiting for the trial.

All the details of the charges that the athlete will face are expected to be revealed on the day he will appear in court. He will also be informed of the date when the trial will officially start.

The police service of South Africa is confident that the investigation on the death of Steenkamp was complete. It may be possible for Oscar Pistorius to be found guilty for premeditated murder, which can result to at least twenty-five years behind bars.

According to Lt. Gen. Solomon Makhale, they are confident that justice will be served, and the accused will answer to the case. The only thing needed is the court process. Makhale added that the police service is confident with their investigation in the case.

Pistorius would have wanted to join the IAAF World Championships, which is one of his goals for his career. The championships are the next most important athletics event after the Olympics.

Oscar Pistorius was aiming to join the championships after reaching the semifinals in the London Olympics last year. He was allowed to race against able-bodied athletes after a long struggle with authorities. He was also aiming to qualify for a final spot at the Luzhniki Stadium.

For the moment, the double amputee has stayed out of the limelight as he waits for his trial to start. However, it may take long before attention will be placed on Oscar Pistorius albeit for a different reason.
