Palestinians Reject Israeli Cease Fire
Palestinian militants have managed to fire approximately 140 rockets from the Gaza Strip this Tuesday as a direct response to the Israel backed cease fire. Fighting thus continues in a conflict that has caused more than 200 deaths in the densely populated Gaza Strip enclave, in the short period of time since this conflict began.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel addressed a direct warning to Hamas leaders saying that they will regret rejecting the Egyptian drafted cease fire. He also confirmed in a nationally televised address that Israel has no other choice than to continue airstrikes on the Palestinian populated Gaza Strip.
Some other high ranking members of Israeli politics also suggested a ground invasion, a move that would lead to even more chaos in the region. The cease fire plan called for a 12-hour decline in hostilities that would have begun at 9 a.m. this Tuesday followed by negotiations in Cairo in the following couple of days.
The violent bombings mark the third major incident in the past five years between Hamas held Palestine and Israel. Sami abu Zuhri, a spokesperson for Hamas said that as they took no part in the drafting of the declaration and their interest where not represented and so had to ignore the cease fire suggestion.
The conflict is nowhere near a resolution as both sides seem more concentrated on issuing blame rather than finding a way to end the violent attacks that affect civilians as well as military personnel.
