Panasonic Offers 4K Recording With The Lumix DMC-FZ1000
The high price of cameras capable of recording 4K videos turns off a number of potential buyers, but it appears Panasonic is offering this capability at a price cheaper than a good number of cameras with the Lumix DMC-FZ1000.
The device is promoted by Panasonic as the first digital compact camera in the world that is capable of recording 4K videos. Although the term “compact” is normally associated with small-sized cameras, the FZ1000 is about the same size as a DSLR or digital single-lens reflex camera. It has a height and length of 99 millimeters and 137 millimenters respectively. It is also 133 millimeters thick when the zoom lens is closed.
The suggested price tag of the Lumix DMC-FZ1000 is $899 and is capable of recording 3840 by 2160 videos at 30 frames per second in MP4 format. Since it is a bridge camera, the FZ1000 crosses the line between a point-and-shoot camera and DSLRs. It weighs around 831 grams.
Despite having the capability of recording 4K videos, it is priced at around half the cost of the high-end 4K camera of Panasonic, the Lumix GH4. The camera offering of Panasonic follows the Alpha 75 mirror-less camera of Sony, which also has the capability of recording 4K videos. The camera from Sony us expected to enter the market by July and may have a price tag of around $2,500.
A Panasonic spokeswoman said the company is anticipating an increase of the number of 4K users with the release of the Lumix DMC-FZ1000. It will provide users the capability of cutting out an 8MP high-resolution image from a 4K video.
The camera features a 16x optical zoom lens from Leica, which is comparatively smaller than the zoom lens of similar bridge cameras in the market. It also features a 20.1 MP sensor, rotating LCD display screen, NFC wireless and Wi-Fi capability.
The Lumix DMC-FZ1000 will be released into the market by Panasonic sometime in July.
