Peyton Manning Retires
Peyton Manning is retiring from the NFL after earning five MVP awards and two Super Bowl trophies. The Denver Broncos revealed that an official announcement will be made soon by Manning.
John Elway, general manager of the Broncos, said Manning accomplished everything as a person and player and it was fortunate for Denver to have him on their team. Manning displayed he was everything they considered him to be, both for the football team and the community. The statement of Elway added that they are thankful that Manning played with the Broncos and they congratulate him for his career.
Many people expected the ending of the 18th season of Manning, which was a unique year for the player. A good part of the 2015 season saw the 39-year-old Manning looking weak and old with his right arm and left foot appearing depleted.
At the end of the season, Peyton Manning was able to lead the Broncos to its third Super Bowl title. The team was also the best in defense for the season, which culminated with its 24-10 victory in Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers.
However, after the end of the season, the alleged University of Tennessee incident in 1996 with a school trainer was scrutinized once again. An HGH investigation also put his clean image at risk. Manning will retire as the only quarterback to win Super Bowl titles for two franchises.
Peyton Manning started his career with the Indianapolis Colts, which picked him first in the 1998 draft. He earned his first four MVP titles with the Colts where he started in two Super Bowls. He was also named the MVP of Super Bowl XLI when the Colts won over the Chicago Bears.
He was later released by the Colts after a number of surgeries and went to the Broncos in 2012. Manning led Denver to four AFC West titles along with two appearances in the Super Bowl. In 2013, he won his fifth MVP tile and set a single-season record for passing yards and touchdowns.
Manning is currently the all-time leader in regular season touchdown passes with 539. Peyton Manning is tied with Brett Favre for the most regular season wins as the starting quarterback with 186, but his totals goes up to 200 when the playoffs are included.
