Pittsburgh Steelers Win Behind Inspiring Performance Of Landry Jones

Landry Jones gave the Pittsburgh Steelers something to think about after he threw 168 yards along with a pair of touchdown passes in the team’s win against the Arizona Cardinals recently. Jones took over Michael Vick in the third quarter of the game.

Unless Ben Roethlisberger will return next week to quarterback for Pittsburgh, Jones can be an option for the team after Vick was injured in the third quarter of the game. He said he could not believe he was given the opportunity to play and he is still “reeling from it.”

Following the injury of Roethlisberger in Week 3, fans at the Heinz Field appeared to be frustrated as Vick struggled in his passing game. Vick has been unable to send the ball downfield into the hands of receivers.

Antonio Brown expressed his frustration in being unable to receive the ball from Vick. On Sunday, he was wide open and raised his hands in the air but did not receive the ball. Coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers said he knows Brown is uncomfortable since he has great rapport with Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger went down due to a sprained medial collateral ligament.

Tomlin added they may have some options with Jones after he was asked what he thinks about Landry Jones. Jones replaced Vick for a short time in the second quarter after Vick had some dirt in his eye. However, after the hamstring of Vick got injured, Jones took over in the third quarter. Tomlin was not thinking of putting in Jones before Vick was injured.

Jones doubted if he would ever get to play with Pittsburgh after struggling at training camp. His doubts were strengthened after Vick was signed by the team in August. Tomlin said Jones may have “played more preseason snaps” than anyone in NFL history. He added that Jones improved and showed it during the game.

The first half saw the Arizona Cardinals getting more gains compared to the Pittsburgh Steelers, which managed a single passing yard at the half. Landry Jones thanked the coaches for allowing him to throw the ball. His second throw in the third quarter was an eight-yard touchdown pass to Martavis Bryant. The next three possessions resulted to scoring drives for Pittsburgh.

Jones and Bryant immediately built rapport in the game. A short pass by Jones to Bryant in the fourth quarter resulted to an 88-yard touchdown reception. Bryant said the pass “was a great ball” from Jones. For the moment, the extent of the hamstring injury of Vick remains uncertain. But, Tomlin may have three quarterbacks to choose from next week and needs to make a decision as soon as possible.

On the other hand, Landry Jones is not thinking about who among the three quarterbacks of Pittsburgh will play next week. He said the touchdown pass to Bryant was still in his mind. Jones highlighted the resiliency of the Pittsburgh Steelers as he said the team showed everyone the kind of team they are in their game against the Arizona Cardinals.
