Pop-star turned Haiti President Faces Newest Dilemma
Port-au-Prince, Haiti — Michel Martelly, the pop-star turned Haitian President, is in his hardest time in politics. He was elected in March of this year and promised that he will be at the forefront of transforming Haiti from its current state of being an impoverished nation into a strong and wealthy Caribbean nation. The strategic plans of the new Haitian President and his cabinet will again be hampered due to the current setback in his administration. The country that has been devastated by a strong earthquake last year badly needs a new rehabilitation program from the current administration. He was elected without any previous experience in politics.
Two of his choices to become the country’s Prime Minister have been rejected by the Haitian Senate. Bernard Gousse has been Martelly’s second pick in less than 2 mos. but was rejected by the 16 members of the Haitian Senate. Gousse is a lawyer and has served as the former minister of justice. He was involved in a lot of controversy. The Haitian Senate may have considered this causing to his eventual rejection. Haiti has been receiving donations from the international community since the deadly and devastating earthquake last year. The country has been considered as the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere.
