Pope Francis Chooses A Normal Apartment To The Papal Suite
The newly elected Pope Francis has chosen to stay in a simple Vatican apartment and not to move into the luxurious and vast papal suit said a Vatican press representative this Tuesday.
The Argentinian Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio as he was known before becoming Pope, has chosen to occupy the Domus Santa Marthae, a hotel style residence inside the Vatican City, the same place where he stayed during the conclave that ended in his election as Pope on the 13th of March.
Pope Francis moved out of his initial one room apartment to a somewhat larger two room suite to better accommodate visitors and to work.
The papal apartment in the Apostolic Palace is ready to receive the new Pope, however, the former Cardinal Bergoglio doesn't appear to want to move there any time soon.
He has also said that he enjoys the community feeling he gets while staying in the Domus Santa Marthae, alongside other clergymen.
The newly elected Pope seems to want to set a more austere and modest tone in his papacy, a contrast to his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI who was known for his sumptuous costumes.
Pope Francis will, however, meet heads of state and other important figures in the reception rooms of the Apostolic Palace and will also respect the tradition of appearing each Sunday from the window of the papal apartment that overlooks Saint Peter’s Square to give his blessing.
