Primary Universal Flu Vaccination
Last season, an influenza pandemic caused thousands of people to be hospitalized and many died. In line with this, the CDC has proposed to have flu vaccination universally. This will cover all people under the age group of 6 months and above, noting that there are no contraindications. It aims not only to protect individuals but also, to inform the entire population about the severity of the disease.
The following people are important to get vaccinated:
- Healthy people with the age of 19-49 years old.
- Those who are under the high risk group without them knowing it.
- Those who have previous recommendation for vaccination but now are in the high risk group.
Universal vaccination identifies the practical value, the importance of giving a clear and simple message and the hope of eradicating the disease. A population that is knowledgeable about a disease has the advantage in dealing and surviving the disease.
Those who are 65 years and above, children below 5 years of age, pregnant women and those with certain conditions like diabetes, asthma and heart disease belong to high risk group of influenza.
Health workers should start giving vaccine until the winter season and beyond.
