Prince Philip Discharged from the hospital After Heart Scare
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was finally able to return to the royal family’s estate on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2011 after having been hospitalized for a blocked coronary artery. Prince Philip, who is now 90 yrs. old, underwent a successful coronary stent procedure at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.
Prince Philip stayed in the hospital for 4 days causing him to miss out on the annual royal family’s traditional Christmas celebration for the first time in recent years. He is known to be active and strong and this was the most serious health-related problem he’s had by far.
Due to his newly found coronary artery blockage, he would most probably take several medications daily which would include aspirin, beta-blockers and medicines for blood pressure. Prince Philip is set to have his heart function tested every six months to see if there would be any changes.
People are asking whether Prince Philip’s heart problem will affect his travel plans with Queen Elizabeth II on her upcoming Diamond Jubilee next year. They were scheduled to visit England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Island to celebrate the queen’s 60th year of being in throne.
Meanwhile, Prince Philip will return to the queen’s private estate, Sandringham, where the royal family spends their annual holiday season.
