Protest In Egypt Increase In Size

In what may be a historic change in the modern history of Egypt, the army has apparently switched sides and is now backing protesters that oppose the way their country is being run by President Mohamed Morsi and the party that is backing him, the Muslim Brotherhood.

In a message delivered this Monday, leaders of the Egyptian armed forces said that President Mohamed Morsi has 48 hours to meet the people’s demands after which they will interfere to restore order.

As the statement made its way through radio and TV, protesters that were tuning in from Tahrir Square, the main hotspot of protests cheered in joy and waved to army helicopters that were passing by with Egyptian flags tied to them.

The military commanders also said that they want no role in the political structure of the Egyptian state; however, they are trying by this maneuver to persuade Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood to restructure the current government, and to hold early elections, both presidential and parliamentary.

Protests come as “The Tamarod”, a group opposed to Morsi’s regime, threatened to march on the Muslim Brotherhood HQ and to start a civil disobedience campaign throughout Egypt until the current president resigns.

While not all protesters in Egypt agree with Tamarod tactics one thing is common to all people’s agenda, and that is the necessity to democratically oust President Morsi and his party from power.
