Queensland Floods Affect NBN Services
National Broadband Network or NBN services in some areas in Queensland and New South Wales affected by flooding and severe weather were already being restored.
The floods have forced the evacuation of thousands over the weekend. It also resulted to disruption in NBN services in some of areas serviced by third-party providers.
Internal checks by the company indicated that services were already being restored although confirmation by the provider has yet to be received. Backup power was used for a number of nodes in some areas in New South Wales although the power was restored before NBN services were affected for some of the users.
However, the backup battery in Kallangur ran out which resulted to the disruption of 19 services although this was already restored. A power outage at Inala caused the disruption of NBN services in the area since the backup battery also ran out.
The company is reportedly working on using a different power source to bring NBN services back online in the area. The redundant fibre cable of Telstra was damaged near Harlin after a landslide swept it away, but it was already restored. This means mobile, landline, as well as broadband services were already working in the northern and central Queensland areas along with South Burnett.
However services may still be disrupted due to local power outages in the area even as NBN services have started to go back online
The mobile network of Optus was online in all of the major population areas in Northern South Wales and Queensland, according to the company. However transmission and power failures have affected services in southeast and central Queensland.
The company already revealed that additional mobile phones will be delivered in central and northern Queensland since the demand for mobile phones and prepaid SIMs has increased recently as NBN services were already being restored.
