Referendum Promised By David Cameron For Possible Departure From EU

A referendum will reportedly be offered by Prime Minister David Cameron that will allow Britons to choose whether they want to remain in the European Union or not.

He indicated a huge public disappointment at the EU. The voice of the Britons should be heard. The Conservative party of David Cameron has included the renegotiation of the EU membership of Britain in its campaign promises for the elections in 2015.

He said that Britain wants to get back some of the authority given to Brussels. It would also review the authority that can be given to the member states. It remains to be seen if the referendum will really happen since it remains uncertain if the Conservatives of David Cameron will win in 2015. The Labor party is currently leading opinion polls.

The promise of David Cameron will likely please many members of the party although it remains to be seen if Britain will leave with the EU. A number of EU members will likely be troubled with the move of Britain even as officials have cautioned David Cameron on moves in taking the membership in the EU too lightly.

Although he wants Britain to remain an EU member, David Cameron also wishes for some reforms in the group.

He also indicated that leaving the European Union will become permanent although he will push for remaining in an EU that has gone through reforms.

The debt crisis in the euro zone has resulted to changes in the bloc, and Britain aims to push for new rules that will make it fair for countries that opt not to use the common currency, Cameron indicated.

Cameron indicated that the likelihood of Britain leaving the EU will increase if there is no referendum. The speech of David Cameron was postponed due to the hostage crisis that occurred in Algeria recently.
