Richard Sherman Signs Contract Extension With The Seahawks

The new contract will earn Richard Sherman an average yearly salary of $14 million, a significant $2 million extra than what Darrelle Revis earns at the Patriots. Sherman wrote about the extension on his blog, saying that his goal was to remain in Seattle and play for the Seahawks. He added that this is a fantastic time in his career as well as an important moment for him and his family. He said that with negotiation out of the way he and the team can focus on what’s really important, defending the Super Bowl Championship they won last year, the first in Seattle’s history.

The young cornerback’s new contract extension is for 4 years and stands to earn him $57.4 million, $40 million of which are guaranteed.

With Sherman's contract extension, the Seahawks have secured two of their most valuable players after free safety Earl Thomas also signed a 4 year contract extension that made him the best paid safety in the NFL with a $40 million salary over the next four years.

Richard Sherman, 26, was a key player in last years Super Bowl victory for the Seahawks registering an impressive 8 interceptions. Sherman, who was a fifth-round draft out of Stanford, also managed to lead the best defenses in the league with 20 interceptions and 60 passes.
