Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Compelled To Cancel Trip Due To Fire

The trip of over 2,200 passengers of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship ended early after fire broke out on board the Grandeur of the Seas.

The cruise ship was on its way to CocoCay from Baltimore when the mooring area caught fire on Monday. As the fire was being put out, the passengers were gathered at an assembly point for a number of hours. The company revealed that all of the guests and crew members were safe.

According to Mark Ormesher of Britain, he and his partner smelled smoke as they made their way to the casino of the ship. The casino was a designated muster station. Instructions were immediately given by the crew, which calmed down the passengers. Information needed for passenger to remain safe was also given by the captain of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship.

Ormesher added that the air conditioning was turned off and bottled waters were passed around to the passengers. Formula milk was also provided for the babies.

There were some cases of high blood pressure and fainting but all of the cases were attended to by the medical staff of the ship. The company added that no medical emergencies, apart from a sprained ankle, were noted. Power on board the Grandeur of the Seas remained normal and it continued its journey to Freeport, Bahamas. Passengers of the cruise ship were flown back into Baltimore, where the Royal Caribbean cruise started.

The company also indicated that refunds for the fares were offered to the passengers along with an offer for a free future cruise. Last year, fire broke out in another ship owned by the company after leaving Manila in the Philippines as it made its way to Malaysia. It was compelled to cancel the trip.

The ships of the Royal Caribbean cruise company were not the only ones that experienced fires as ships from Carnival and Costa Cruises also suffered similar mishaps during one of the trips.
