The royal wedding of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Princess Charlene proved to be as grandiose and lavish as expected, starting with a religious wedding attended by prominent people from the entertainment and political world.
Fireworks and three days of festivities follow Monaco's first royal wedding since Prince Albert's father Prince Rainier married Hollywood actress Grace Kelly Grace Kelly in 1956.

The royal wedding of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene began with a civil ceremony Friday. But the austere look gave way to the opulent Roman Catholic religious ceremony on Saturday held at the courtyard of the palace.
Among the A-list of guests were French president Nicolas Sarkozy, James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore, supermodel Naomi Campbell and designers Roberto Cavalli and Karl Lagerfield. Also present were Prince Albert II's sisters Princess Stephanie and Princess Caroline.

Princess Charlene, formerly Charlene Lynette Wittstock, wore an elegant white gown made for her by renowned designer Giorgio Armani. The wedding dress had thousands of Swarovski crystals and mother of pearl beads embedded in silk.
The religious ceremony of the royal wedding of Prince William and Princess Charlene was mostly a serious and solemn affair but the mood lightened up as the royal couple emerged from the palace after the ceremony and was greeted with cheers and showered with petals.
