SAG Awards See Argo Winning Top Honors

The 19th Screen Actors Guild or SAG Awards saw “Argo” winning the best cast ensemble award.

The victory follows its win at the Producers Guild Award, which is considered as an indicator of a win at the Oscars. The Ben Affleck also won a Golden Globe best director award for the movie, which also copped the best dramatic motion picture award.

In addition to their win at the Golden Globe, Daniel Day-Lewis, Anne Hathaway, and Jennifer Lawrence also won at the SAG awards.

Daniel Day-Lewis won the best lead actor at the SAG awards for his role as the 16th president of the US while Hathaway won the female actor in a supporting role. On the other hand, Lawrence won the female actor trophy at the SAG Awards for her role as a young widow in “Silver Linings Playbook.”

Although a win at the SAG awards is not an automatic Oscar win, a SAG nomination normally hints at a possible Academy Award win for the acting categories.

The SAG awards also saw Julianne Moore, Claire Danes, and Kevin Costner copping an award, giving them a sweep after they won at the Emmys and the Golden Globe. The “Modern Family” also won the best ensemble for a comedy series for the third straight SAG awards. Moore won the female actor in a TV movie or miniseries award while Danes won the drama series female actor award. Costner was the best male actor in a TV movie or miniseries.

Other winners at the SAG awards include Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Bryan Cranston, and “Downtown Abbey.”

Dick Van Dyke was also honored at the event for a career that spanned nearly seventy years. He was met with cheers and a standing ovation, which brought a smile to the face of the 87-year-old star.

The SAG awards, which was held at the Shrine Exposition Hall in LA, was telecast over TNT and TBS.
