San Antonio Spurs Win 2014 NBA Finals

The San Antonio Spurs did not allow their defeat in the NBA Finals last year as they dominated the Miami Heat in the 2014 NBA Finals and winning their fifth NBA championship.

The Spurs fought back from a sixteen-point deficit in the first quarter by overwhelming the Heat with 37 points to the 13 points of Miami in the second and third quarters of the game. Tim Duncan of San Antonio said they remembered what happed a year ago and the feeling it evoked. He added that the team built on the feeling and got back into the finals.

Miami raced to an early lead in the first quarter behind the 17 points of LeBron James. He ended the game with a total of 31 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.

Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said the San Antonio Spurs played excellent basketball, particularly in the last three games. He added that the Spurs were the better team in the game.

The championship was the fifth for Tim Duncan and Coach Gregg Popovich of the Spurs. It was the fourth championship for Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. The three players are considered as the Big Three of San Antonio.

Chris Bosh had 13 points for the Miami Heat while Dwayne Wade added 11 points for the Heat. Miami will now have to deal with the upcoming free agency status of James, Bosh and Wade as well as look for new players to help its version of the Big Three if they stay.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver commended the team for showing the world the beauty of the game. The San Antonio Spurs are known for their methodical game play and flourishes on ball movement as well as three-point shooting. San Antonio also has a number of players coming from other countries since it does not normally get a high draft pick.

The team also acquired Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard from a trade with Indiana together with Patty Mills of Australia. Leonard scored 22 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.

Coming into the game on Sunday, Bosh said the Heat will win game 5. It appeared that Miami was on its way to win when it went up 22-6 early in the first quarter. However, it did not last as the San Antonio Spurs came back with excellent game play and went on to win the 2014 NBA Finals.
