See A Different Ireland In Belfast
While Belfast has been associated with ethnic and religious hate and terrorism for a couple of decades, in recent years it began to pull away from its troubled past and started to focus on the numerous beauties and tourist attractions this city has to offer.
Churches are a favorite of tourists thanks to the cultural richness of the city, the stunning architecture and not least of all, the amazing graffiti and street art that surrounds them. Murals differ from neighborhood to neighborhood and from the Catholic West side to the Protestant East. You will find religious parables, social commentary or reproduced works of art.
Make sure you visit the Titanic Quarter as well. The site of the shipyard where the iconic ship was built has been restored and recreated into a touristic quarter. Here you will find numerous Titanic themed rides and attractions as well as a faithful restoration of an early 20th century shipyard.
St. George’s Market is the perfect place to connect with local artists and have an amazing meal as well. Each weekend you will find some sort of artistic or cultural event in the once derelict market that was reconstructed in 1997.
If in Northern Ireland you must check out some local bands that play Irish music. There are numerous pubs and bars in the historic center that offer amazing live acts, some going back centuries. Don’t stick to just one, and make sure you check out as many live concerts as possible while spending time in beautiful Belfast.
