Serena Williams Out from Top 105 rankings, Qualifies for U.S. Open
White Plains, New York — Serena Williams found a perfect excuse to qualify into the prestigious U.S. Tennis Open field. Serena’s ranking this week is 172. Only 105 players are allowed and can compete in the U.S. Open, which is the last major tennis championship this year. Serena used her number 1 ranking protected by a special injury. The U.S. Open will commence in August 29.
Williams was not able to compete for more than 6 months because of major injuries and other health issues, she was given the chance to use the special provision by having the right to qualify up to 8 tennis tournaments this year including one Major Grand Slam tournament.
The field in the U.S. Open boosts the world’s best woment tennis players with 97 out of the WTA’s top 100 players are joining including Li Na, French Open champion, Kim Clijsters, twice U.S. Open champion and Petra Kvitova, Wimbledom champion.
