Seth MacFarlane Won’t Do The Oscars A Second Time
In a tweet made yestarday comedian and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane said he had a lot of fun hosting the Oscars but that he wouldn’t do it a second time.
A spokesperson for the Academy Awards didn’t divulge more information but confirmed MacFarlane’s message.
Seth Macfarlane, the creator of shows like Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show and of the summertime box office hit Ted, has been highly criticised for his sometimes offensive performance while hosting the Oscars.
He was accused of degrading minorities and women, especially during a song called „We Saw Your Boobs”.
Spencer Kornhaber, writer for The Atlantic said „What the jokes were, really, was stupid, boring, and empty: humor that relied less on its own patently sexist, racist, homophobic, etc. content than on admiration for or disgust with the host’s willingness to deliver it.”
Other media sources like the magazine Vulture and a host of movie critics seemed to have a bone to pick with the host.
MacFarlane actually anticipated this type of criticism and adressed it in a sketch where William Shatner, playing Captain Kirk, read headlines from the future, headlines that were awfully close to what the press actually wrote.
While criticised Seth MacFarlane’s performance managed to increase ratings as the number of people who watched the show was higher by 3 percent compared with last years Oscars.
