Shaoun White Surprises Fan During Prom Night
Carly Monzo, a high school senior at the Mount St. Joseph Academy in Flourton, Philadelphia asked professional snowboarder Shaun White to her prom upon finding out that he did not get to attend his own prom.
Monzo posted a video online asking Shaun White to her prom, without expecting that anything would come of it. The young high school senior filmed herself while reciting a poem with a camera made by GoPro, one of White’s sponsors. The video was posted on Vimeo and was an instant hit.
The poem that got White to not only attend but also play at Monzo’s prom with his band called Bad Things read “Roses are red, violets are blue, My name is Carly Monzo, But I’m sure you had no clue…”
The poem went on addressing Monzo’s appreciation for white via some very clever lyrics. After seeing the clip, White decided to be Carly Monzo’s date for prom, but kept things as secretive as possible after receiving the acceptance and full support of the Carly's high school.
Monzo told the press that she didn’t expect anything until the curtain dropped and she saw White on stage. She danced on stage while White’s band played and even received a kiss from her favorite athlete by the end of the prom.
