Sick Venus Williams Withdraws from U.S. Open
Sick Venus Williams Withdraws from U.S. Open. New York — Venus Williams was forced to withdraw from the 2011 U.S. Tennis Open due to health related matters. Williams was saddened to bid goodbye to her avid fans after she already played her first match in the season’s last Grand Slam tournament.
Williams, two time champion at the U.S. Open, formally withdrew from the tournament Wednesday after she has been diagnosed recently with Sjogren’s syndrome. The disease is an auto immune illness that will sap all her energy and thus will give her difficulty in playing throughout the rest of the tournament. Williams enjoyed her first match but she told her fans she could no longer continue competing as advised by her doctor.
She was optimistic and thankful for the medical diagnosis because she has now reasons to rest, get well, focus and get back in shape. She vowed to her avid fans that she will be returning soon at the court to compete again.
Williams, already 31 years old, is getting closer to ending her tennis career. It was so different when she was still starting few years ago. Sjogren syndrome is not fatal and career threatening. Some signs and symptoms include dry mouth, dry eyes and sometimes sore joints and fatigue.
