Skype Issue Fixed
The status system on Skype was fixed a few hours after an issue affected it, making it unavailable to users around the world. The issue was initially reported on Monday at around 4:00 AM EST. Services were fully restored after around ten hours at 7:00 PM EST.
Microsoft, owner of the service, said in a statement that an issue on the status settings was detected on the service. The status settings show whether a user is online or offline. Due to this, the status of many people was shown as offline. The issue prevented users from making calls even if they were online.
This also caused the status of all contacts of users affected by the issue to show them being offline, which prevented users from calling their contacts.
The issue was noted among users around the world, including Japan, Australia and the UK. The issue was acknowledged by the support staff as they tweeted that they were working to resolve it.
The service said Skype for web was not affected by the status issue and it can be used in sending instant messages and making calls. The service indicated later that the problem was already identified.
The service said they were already working on reconnecting its users and are concentrating on restoring the service. Skype for Business users were not affected by the issue, the service added. It also apologized to its users for the inconvenience they experienced.
A number of users tweeted that they were having issues with the service. One user tweeted that she could not connect with her squad. Another user tweeted that with the service down, it would be a good idea for startups to have a backup service in place. One user joked that with Skype down, he would have a really productive morning.

With #SkypeDown, I wonder how many startups are learning that it's a good idea to have a backup videochat service in place. #strategy
