Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman Dies At 49
Jeff Hanneman the founding member of the legendary metal group Slayer died of liver failure after suffering a spider bite in Australia two years ago.
A spokesperson for the band said that Hanneman died this Thursday in a hospital in Los Angeles. He had his wife by his side as he passed away from liver failure.
Hanneman was presumably bitten by a spider while on tour in Australia two years ago. He was recovering after his reluctance to seek medical treatment nearly lost him his arm.
Sources near the band say Hanneman was writing songs for Slayer’s new album that was scheduled to be launched later this year.
The news of the rock legend’s death started a huge buzz on twitter with countless other musicians and musical industry affiliates expressing their condolences and sympathy.
Neil Portnow, CEO and president of Recording Academy released a statement saying that he regrets Hanneman’s death and the music lost “a true trailblazer”.
A number of other famous musicians expressed their regret at the sad news via Twitter. Dave Mustaine tweeted “Tonight one less star will be shining and sadly, the stage got just a little bit darker.”
Slash also said “Tragic & shocking news about Jeff Hanneman. He is going to missed by so many. What a sad day for Metal. RIP man.”
Jeff Hanneman was 49 at the time of his death.
