Sony PlayStation VR Price Uncomfortable To Company Exec
The head of PlayStation Europe, Jim Ryan, said the price of the upcoming Sony PlayStation VR device makes him extremely uncomfortable. He said in a recent interview that the company deliberated on the price point of the device to ensure that consumers consider it a good value.
Ryan said he is “extremely uncomfortable” with Recommended Retail Price of the device. He said these are decisions they take into serious consideration and they are always aiming to provide good value for their pricing and they think this was done with the upcoming device.
The retail price of the Sony PlayStation VR in the Unites States and United Kingdom are $400 and £350, respectively. It will also be sold in Europe at €400 and Australia at $550. On the other hand, its price tag in Japan is at ¥44,980. The price is only for the device and does not include the other accessories. A PlayStation Camera for the device, which is price at $60, and Move controllers, which are required for some games, are sold separately.
Ryan was asked during the interview if the company is capable of meeting the demand considering that the preorder stocks of some retailers were already sold out. Ryan said while the preorder situation was exceptionally encouraging, he is wary about making any assumptions on their performance after the launch. He added that early preorders of the Sony PlayStation VR have already surpassed their initial expectations.
He added that the demand for the device will be significant on the first day of availability. Ryan also talked about virtual reality topics as well as the marketing plans of the company for its new device offering. The new device offering of Sony will be officially launched in October and the company is already accepting preorders for the Launch Bundle. Preorders for the standalone Sony PlayStation VR headset will be accepted starting on March 29.
