Fans of the Late Show that feared the change of David Letterman with Stephen Colbert would also mean that the show might move from the Ed Sullivan Theater or even worse from New York City can relax now as CBS’ CEO Leslie Moonves confirmed that the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” will continue in the exact same building and city as the former show.

The panic was set in April just as David Letterman announced that he will be retiring from the show. A bidding war between Los Angeles and New York started almost immediately to lure the show to the West side. The decision was confirmed this Wednesday and it seems it is ideal for both the network and the city of New York.

CBS will receive $11 million in tax credits for the next five years as well as $5 million in grants for renovating the historic theater the show is produced in. The city in turn gets the networks commitment to provide at least 200 well-paid, year-round jobs that are based in New York.

Stephen Colbert, the new host of the Late Show will also be happy with the choice to stay in New York as he is well “rooted” in Manhattan. He will also have access to better political guests for his show, something that would have been hard to achieve on the West Coast.
