Suicide bomb attack in Iraq Leaves 15 Dead
Tikrit, Iraq — In an attempt to undermine the current Iraqi Government, 2 suicide bombers successfully detonated bombs sacrificing their lives to kill 15 people and wounding 30 or more people. The reported suicide bombings happened to a group of Iraqi officials and soldiers. They were gathered to collect their salaries before the deadly explosions. The first bomb blasted near the group of soldiers and officers while the second one exploded when the emergency and rescue workers arrived. Most of the reported casualties were soldiers under the Iraqi Government.
Tikrit is the hometown of the infamous Saddam Hussein. It is dominated by Sunni Islamists and Muslims who were linked to al Qaeda. Numerous suicide bombings were reported in the city of Tikrit including the two worst and deadliest this year. In January, 60 lives were shattered when a bomb exploded in a center for police recruiting. In March, 53 were killed in another suicide bombing. Since 2006, violence in Iraq has been reduced significantly but some insurgencies were still attempting to attack the government.
The American forces in Iraq numbered at 46,000 are expected to withdraw by the end of the year. The current Iraqi Government believes they can control the situation but humbly acknowledges the need for further trainings and support from the United States.
