Suicide Squad Spinoff Starring Margot Robbie Coming Soon

Even before Suicide Squad hits the big screen, a spinoff is already in the works with Margot Robbie as a producer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros. is working on the spinoff with an all-female ensemble led by Robbie as Harley Quinn. Aside from the anti-heroine portrayed by Robbie, a number of female villains and heroes of DC will be included in the movie, like the Birds of Prey and Batgirl.

The Hollywood Reporter indicated that Robbie loved the female characters of DC Comics as she read her role on the Suicide Squad. She opened up the idea for the movie with Warner Bros. after working on the concept with a writer. While film studio loved the concept, the cast and plot details have yet to be revealed.

Since Harley Quinn has a devoted fan base, the decision to work on the spinoff was logical for Warner bros. The character played by Margot Robbie made its first appearance on “Batman: The Animated Series” in 1992. The positive reaction of fans paved the way for her debut on the official comic canon before being given her own series. Unlike Marvel, DC Comics has its own array of recognizable female characters, including Poison Ivy and Supergirl. The upcoming female superhero movies, including Wonder Woman, is a feather on the cap of DC since its competition only has one upcoming female superhero movie.

The planned Suicide spinoff is not yet considered a major risk for Warner Bros. based on the performance of Robbie as Harley Quinn. The plans of the company for the DC Universe is currently a mess following the disappointing results of “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice” and the backing out of Seth Grahame-Smith due to creative differences. There are also reports that Aquaman director James Wan wants to leave and the supposed reshoots of the Suicide Squad to inject humor into the movie were shelved. Due to these setbacks, Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, may be the boost needed for the DC Extended Universe.
