Syrian president Bashar al-Assad Makes Changes In Ministries To Mend Economy
Bashar al-Assad, the contested Syrian president has made some important changes in his cabinet, naming seven new ministers in what seems an attempt to restart an economy that is taking a beating after the two years of civil war.
The state television announced that current president Bashar al-Assad has changed the heads of ministries relating to economy, but has kept the defense and interior ministries unchanged.
The civil war that started in March 2011 has devastated much of Syria leaving former prosperous cities in ruins and destroying much of the country’s infrastructure like bridges, gas lines, and power stations.
Fighting is nearing the center of Damascus, the Syrian capital with rebels meeting heavy resistance from army troops in the Norhteastern and Soputhern parts of the city.
Some of the cabinet changes are aimed at helping Syrians that have had to move or have been left homeless after the intense fighting. This is also viewed as an attempt for the Assad cabinet to try to regain some popularity, by taking interest in the countless innocents that have been affected by the last two years of fighting.
